Chateau Côte Montpezat
Appellation : Castillon – Côtes de Bordeaux
The 29 hectares of Château Côte Montpezat are located 40 km east of Bordeaux, along the right bank, with the continuity of the famous clay-limestone soils of Saint-Emilion. South facing, in the Castillon Côtes de Bordeaux appellation, the vineyard is planted with 75% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Franc and 5% Cabernet Sauvignon. In 2003, the planting of 7200 white grape vines, on a gravelly-clay-limestone plateau extended the range offered made up of 40% Sauvignon blanc – 30% Sauvignon gris – 30% Semillon. This was further complimented in 2007, with the introduction of LE CANON de Côte Montpezat in Bordeaux Rosé appellation. Committed to an environmental management system, the vineyards are HVE 3 certified since 2019 and obtained the BEE FRIENDLY label in 2020.
The owner's pitch.
“Our belief in the quality of this terroir and confidence in the team at Côte Montpezat, led by Technical Director Jean-François Lalle and Administration Director Delphine Toullec, encouraged us to invest further in the wine business, even in such challenging times. This property, its terroir, and vineyards have enjoyed numerous successes over the years. It possesses the qualities of the great estates from the Right Bank and the potential to build on its past achievements.
Excited about this potential and personally interested in wine for many years, our group became the owners of the 30 hectares of Château Côte Montpezat after my wife and I purchased Château Haut Bernat AOC Puisseguin Saint-Émilion in 2019 as our first step. Building on that experience and the lessons learned over the past years, I decided to expand our portfolio. Our commitment to a quality-first approach in all our business ventures has naturally extended to the wine industry. I believe that the foundation of a great wine starts in the vineyard, with its grapes, a diverse terroir, and a sustainable approach to the environment being of utmost importance.
“It is our firm belief in the outstanding quality of this terroir, the strength of its foundations, and its proven track record that encouraged us to invest further in wine, even in these challenging times. Over the years, this estate, its soils, and its vines have achieved numerous successes. It possesses all the qualities of the finest Right Bank estates and the potential to build upon these achievements.
Captivated by this potential and personally passionate about wine for many years, our group became the owner of the 30 hectares of Château Côte Montpezat, following the acquisition by my wife and myself of Château Haut Bernat, AOC Puisseguin Saint-Émilion, in 2019 — our first step into the world of wine. Strengthened by this experience and the knowledge gained over the past few years, I decided to expand our portfolio. Our commitment to excellence in all our ventures has naturally extended to the world of wine.
I am convinced that the foundation of a great wine begins in the vineyard — with its grapes and its diverse terroir. A sustainable approach to the environment is also of utmost importance to us.
Today, we adapt our work to the needs of the vines while continuing the efforts already undertaken. Certified HVE Level 4, Bee Friendly, and Terra Vitis since 2024, we demonstrate our clear respect for the environment. This philosophy continues in the cellar, where we apply the same high standards with the ultimate goal of crafting elegant wines that truly reflect their origins.
These wines are made to be shared and enjoyed — approachable in their youth, yet with excellent ageing potential.” – Sean Legault

The Cuvée Compostelle is characterised by a beautiful dark red colour, with aromas of red fruit, blueberries, blackberries and black cherries, discreet spices on the nose and a palate, elegantly blended with hints of vanilla from the oak barrels with a fresh finish. Nicely balanced, drinkable now but its tannic structure makes it suitable for long ageing.
