Chateau d’Arcins

Appellation : Haut-Medoc

To examine the origins of the Arcins vineyards, we need to go back to the year 1300, when vines were planted here at the behest of the Knights Templar. Château d’Arcins lies along the famous ‘Route des Châteaux’ between Moulis and Margaux, and became part of the Castel family portfolio in 1971. Christiane Castel – who still heads up the property – was quick to recognise its extraordinary potential, and soon launched an extensive project to restore and enhance this magnificent historical legacy. A major part of the project involved the construction of one of the first ever circular wineries. Modelled on the Médoc Grands Crus Classés, the Arcins vineyards are planted at a density of  9,600 vines per hectare. They comprise two complementary terroirs –one of gravel, the other of chalky clay. Château d’Arcins offers consistently high quality; year after year it achieves Cru Bourgeois classification, and is a member of the highly select Cercle Rive Gauche.

Powerful yet smooth character. Château d’Arcins’ has a delectably smooth character. On the nose, we find delightfully concentrated red fruit and spicy aromas intermingled with orange peel.
The flavours marry together harmoniously and give way to a palate that is voluptuous at first, then warm and robust. This full-bodied wine is a perfect representation of its Médoc terroir
