La Tour de Bessan
Château La Tour de Bessan, owned by oenologist Marie-Laure Lurton since 1992, is the result of the rehabilitation of a 1934 building designed to receive the telecommunications of the Médoc. By installing an ergonomic vat room, a barrel cellar and a tasting room, the collaboration with the architect Vincent Defos du Rau testifies to the renewal of the estate, its qualitative ambition and its artistic openness. The vineyard of the property is managed in integrated agriculture (HEV & Terra Vitis labels) with the greatest respect for the human being and the environment. The know-how of the production team combined with that of Eric Boissenot, oenologist consultant, allow to make the wines of La Tour de Bessan great Margaux.

The owner's pitch.
“The Château La Tour de Bessan, owned by the oenologist Marie-Laure Lurton since 1992 is housed in the renovated 1934 building that served as the telecommunications building for the Medoc. By setting up the purpose-built cellar room, the barrel maturation room and tasting room here, it clearly shows that the collaboration with award-winning architect Vincent Defos du Rau was the dawn of the property’s renaissance and bears witness to Marie-Laure’s high ambitions for quality and her creativity. The vineyards are managed using Integrated Production methods that highly respect both man and the environment, and are HVE (High Environmental Values) and Terra Vitis approved. The production team’s know-how combined with that of Eric Boissenot, the consultant oenologist, enables La Tour de Bessan to produce outstanding Margaux wines.”

Wines.
Every vintage reveals its flairs and differences. The oldest wines, 2004, 2008 and 2011 show complex aromatic notes mingled with integrated tannins. These wines would be sublimated by white meats, rich boletus mushroom dishes… The 2015, 2016 and 2018 necessitate decanting an hour before drinking to allow the wine to relax and soften. Their aromatic expression is more exuberant, mingling notes of ripe dark fruit, vanilla and sweet spices. The tannins are firmer here and would match well with grilled meat, a good Comté cheese or a lamb casserole.
