Chateau Villars

Appellation : Fronsac

It will be two centuries now that seven generations of wine growers have been tending the vines at Château Villars. Tradition is obviously a basic essential when it comes to managing this family estate. But for more than twenty years now, the quality of the wines of Château Villars has developed through the application of modern oenological principles, to become today one of the references of its appellation. The vines grow on hills overlooking the valley of the River Isle, in soils of clay and limestone that are known for their capacity to produce wines with great aromatic variety and remarkable elegance on the palate.

The owner's pitch.

“The wines of Château Villars owe their personality to soils of clay and limestone. While the clay lends them their power and depth, the limestone does a great job of regulating the water supply available to the vine. This is our “Grand Vin”, our flagship wine, matured 100 percent in French oak barrels. 20 hectares of our vineyards, comprising our estate’s oldest vines, are dedicated to its production.”

Wines.

In the nose, Château Villars shows great freshness, floral or fruity depending on the year, and a touch of spices. On the palate it unfolds into powerfully crafted, very elegant tannins. This wine gains in complexity as it ages and can be kept in the cellar for 10 to 20 years depending on the vintage.
