Appellation : Saint-Emilion Grand Cru Classé
Chateau Destieux
Located on one of the two highest points of Saint-Emilion, Château Destieux covers 8.12 hectares (20 acres). The vines, planted in one single block, look out over the Dordogne valley. For centuries, Destieux, formerly called “Des Yeux” (Eyes), was a place where local villagers came along to admire the view of the sun setting over the Dordogne valley. The natural amphitheatre of Destieux’s landscape guarantees ideal vine exposure to sunshine! The vine roots delve down into a clay-limestone soil, which a thin layer of siliceous topsoil lightly covers at the summit of the plateau.

The owner's pitch.
“Château Destieux, Grand Cru Classé de Saint Emilion, several times winner of the Grands Crus Classés cup, is positioned in a block of 8 hectares located on one of the highest points of the clay-limestone plateau with a magnificent view of the Dordogne valley. Its grape varieties are 66% Merlot, 17% Cabernet Franc and 17% Cabernet Sauvignon, with a major age of the vines of 45 years. The grapes, grown in compliance with environmental standards, are picked at full maturity before a very selective double sorting. The vinification takes place in wooden tuns with manual punching of the cap, without pumping over, in order to preserve the fruit as much as possible. The particularity of Château Destieux is to produce wines with great ageing potential and to offer a very wide choice of vintages.”

At first glance, a dark and deep garnet robe announces a beautiful tasting. The approach is fragrant, with floral notes. The fruit is dense and juicy, the aromas appear, making this wine airy. The texture is powerful and silky, the aromas of black fruits are mixed to nuances of spices. The wine comes in full bloom in the mid-palate. The tannins are very fine and reveal themselves in the finish. This rich and delicate Destieux suggests a great wine in becoming.
