A defensive fortress on the steps of Charlemagne’s empire, which came under English rule, a feudal, alliance-building and vassalage stake, the Château de La Rivière is a magnificent property dominating the Dordogne valley and the eponymous river. Perched on the heights of the Fronsac appellation, this vast wine-growing estate produces 3 colours of wine, on plots of vines on plateaux and clay-limestone hillsides, reds in Fronsac, white in Bordeaux Blanc and rosé in Bordeaux Rosé. Château de La Rivière is a must see address and welcomes you to its 5 charming guest rooms located in its magnificent 16th century historic building renovated in the 19th century by Edmond Duthoit, a pupil of the famous French architect Viollet-Le-Duc.

Since the end of 2013, Château de la Rivière has been looking to the future under the aegis of the Bolian group, owner of hotels in China’s Yunnan province and producer of Pu’er teas. They have entrusted responsibility for the property to Xavier Buffo, General Manager, who has been on the estate since 1997. He wishes to perpetuate and build on the quality efforts made over the last few years, making Château de La Rivière a reference in the Bordeaux wine landscape. The pages of its history are being written day by day, more than ever in many languages throughout the world, wherever wine lovers recognise the quality of the work accomplished at the foot of its walls, which are full of history and still conceal many mysteries…
