Appellation : Saint-Emilion Grand Cru Classé
Chateau Fonroque
The estate comprises 17.6 hectares of vines, just a few hundred metres north-west of the medieval village of Saint Emilion. It was bought in 1931 by Adèle and Jean Moueix. Alain Moueix, their great grandson, has been at the head of the estate since 2001. He introduced there a way of working based on a deep respect for the environment, leading to be certified in organic viticulture since 2006 and biodynamics since 2008. Château Fonroque was the very first Grand Cru Classé to achieve biodynamic certification. The vineyards are a mosaic, composed of the three major soil types found in Saint Emilion. The new vat room, which has smaller tanks, allows us to bring a refined touch to the final blending by revealing our terroir.

The owner's pitch.
“In 2002, the decision to go biodynamic was a break with the norm, an adventure, an intellectual endeavour. Today it is a serene obviousness backed up by study and intuition.”
Alain Moueix

Our wine reflects the place it comes from, the impact of biodynamics can be found in the precision and the freshness of the fruit. The attack is fleshy and vivid, progressively reaching a nice tension with a long finish. The nose is quite complex and refined.
