Chateau
Grand Ormeau
In 2017, Mr. and Mrs. QU purchased Château Grand Ormeau from Mr. Beton. The vineyard, currently spanning over 13.5 hectares, is entirely within the Lalande-de-Pomerol appellation and benefits from an exceptional terroir of gravel with a clayey and iron-rich subsoil. In 2020, the transition to organic farming began, and the 2023 vintage is the first to be certified as Organic Agriculture.

Tasting notes (2023 vintage, en primeur):
« Krautig-würzige Nase, vegetabile Noten, rote Frucht; runder Gaumen, knackig, zeigt Schmelz und Saftigkeit; angenehm lang, wiederum würzig im Abgang”. Par Adrian Van Velsen (Vinum + vvWine.ch)
“Dark purple colour with violet hue and almost black core. Elegant nose with floral character, ripe blackberries and hints of raspberries. On the palate well structured and balanced with ripe fruit, discreet spiciness and good length. Tannins are firm yet ripe, elegant mid-palate ». Par Markus Del Monego
“The 2023 Grand Ormeau has a very fruit-driven nose with strawberry pastilles, red cherries and light orange pith aromas. The palate is medium-bodied with sappy red fruit. There might be just a little too much maceration here, yet this Lalande de Pomerol retains balance. Its muscular finish means it may age well in bottle. Fine”. Par Neal Martin (Vinous)
« Dunkles Rubingranat, violette Reflexe, zarte Randaufhellung. Zartes, helles Nugat, reife Herzkirschen, zart nach Edelholz, etwas Karamell. Komplex, feine Süsse, reife Tannine, dezente Säurestruktur, balanciert, etwas weisses Nugat auch im abgang, balancierter Speisenbegleiter ». Par Peter Moser (Falstaff)
