Chateau La Haye

Appellation : Saint-Estephe

Château La Haye is part of a long wine-growing tradition. The vineyard dates back to 1557, when Sire Janot Bernard, Lord of the Fief of Leyssac, acquired the property and planted the first vines there. This was passed on within the same family for 370 years. The story goes that it was the hunting grounds of King Henri II and Diane de Poitiers during their hunting parties. The royal monogram H and D interlaced is thus engraved in the stone of the Château and now decorates the packaging of our wines. In 2012, Chris Cardon bought the property after having taken his first steps in the region on the occasion of the Médoc Marathon. The vineyard benefits from the exceptional terroir of Saint Estèphe, made up of gravel and limestone.

The owner's pitch.

It’s hard to see what running, pharmaceuticals, and wine have in common. But Chris Cardon embraces each of these worlds with the same passion for discovery, the same desire to create. When he bought Château La Haye in Saint-Estèphe, and Château Bellevue in Pauillac, Chris Cardon was making a dream come true. It was the dream of an epicurean, in love with great Bordeaux wines. In his properties, as in his pharmaceutical adventures, he is a visionary. In the case of Château La Haye, the idea is to offer an exceptional wine, to bring a piece of land and its extraordinary history back to life.

Wines.

Château La Haye wines have the natural power of Saint-Estèphe wines, the freshness which characterises the best wines made for maturing, but this exceptional product is swathed in softness, fruit, and aromatic elegance. The grapes are hand-picked at optimal ripeness, and are treated with great care. During fermentation, extraction is handled gently. Vinification and maturing are carried out plot by plot. Alcoholic and malolactic fermentation are carried out in temperature-controlled stainless-steel vats. The wines of Château La Haye are aged in French oak barrels, chosen from a selection of coopers.
