Chateau Crabitey
For more than 150 years, Chateau Crabitey was owned by a religious order, which was destined to welcome orphans. Then, the Franciscan Sisters taught them the vineyard’s crafts and winemaking. In 2008, the Sisters decided to sell the estate and gave Arnaud de Butler – vineyard’s manager and winemaker for 10 years – and his wife the opportunity to acquire this unique place.
Today, the vineyard situated in Portets – at the heart of the Graves appellation – has a surface area of 30 hectares producing recognized red and white wines.

The owner's pitch.
“Since my arrival in Crabitey, I focused on following my father’s principals, who transmitted to me his passion for wine and this estate. He had very close ties with this place and helped the Sisters to professionalize the winemaking activities by restructuring the vineyard and modernizing the production facilities. For 10 years, it has been my priority to keep this work up and in the meantime to develop strong partnerships and ensure the distribution of our wines in France and abroad. Over this same period, we have been working on formalizing and improving our environmental approach. Lastlty, we have also started the renovation of the estate as a whole.”

The red wines of Chateau Crabitey fit the typical profile of a Graves area wine. They are marked by red fruit notes and have a fine structure on the palate. On the meal, they are often tasted with a red meat or fish, or more traditionally with cheese. The silky tannins enable the wine to age easily up to 15-20 years.
The white wines focus on freshness and minerality thanks to the Sauvignon blanc and the Sémillon that show themselves on our gravely soils. You can taste them as an aperitif, but also with a white meat or fish, or even with a summer fruit-based dessert.
